Te Whare Whakapakari (House of love, strength and nurture) consists of two homes tucked away in Tawa – Te Whare Wahine for young women and Te Whare Tane for the young men. Despite being two homes they work closely together with joint programmes and activities. The young people are supported by fulltime house parents, and a professional youth team (youthworkers and social workers) along with a range of supportive organisations and individuals.
Most young people come to our homes after many years of 'failed placements'. Through providing stable and caring living arrangements we observe significant changes in the young people.
Young people in Te Whare Whakapakari are referred by Child Youth and Family Service of the Ministry of Social Development. Young people range in ages from 12 - 17 years of age. This programme is mostly funded by The Child Youth and Family Service.
