We hear increasingly about the ‘ageing population’ and the related challenges this raises for our communities. At Wesley we don’t see ‘ageing’ as a problem. Lets face it; we are all doing it! If there is a problem, it is how ‘society’ relates to and values our old people.
Our focus at Wesley is to work alongside those people for whom growing old decreases their capacity to enjoy life and participate or contribute to the communities they live in.
Our bias is towards those who are marginalized – through lack of social or family supports, economic hardship, mental illness – whatever.
Our work with older people spans a wide variety; providing the social support to enable people to live in their own homes , running groups and outings for people with similar interests, providing rental accommodation with some oversight, and providing more intensive support in our resthomes and continuing care hospital environment.
