Homes for Young People
Te Whare Whakapakari (House of love, strength and nurture) consists of two homes tucked away in Tawa, providing residential support for young people for whom living at home is no longer an option. – Te Whare Wahine for young women and Te Whare Tane for the young men.
Most young people come to WCA's homes after many years of 'failed placements'. By providing stable and caring living arrangements we observe significant changes in our young people.
Our work is based on a Strength Based ethos and our young people are supported by fulltime house parents, and a professional youth team (youthworkers and social workers) along with a range of supportive organisations and individuals.
The Young people staying in Te Whare Whakapakari are referred to WCA by the Child Youth and Family Service of the Ministry of Social Development. Young people range in ages from 12 - 17 years of age. This programme is largelly funded by The Child Youth and Family Service.
