Real Talk is a free, 6-week parenting course for parents, caregivers and whānau, based at Wesley Waitangirua.
We’ve worked with the local community to develop a parenting programme that meets the needs of parents, caregivers and whānau living in the Porirua area. Participants meet weekly for 6 weeks to listen, share and learn from each other.
Real Talk sessions are guided by two skilled tutors and cover a range of topics, including the difference between discipline and punishment, and the importance of praising good behaviour rather than focusing on bad behaviour.
Real Talk is the first programme being funded by a three-year grant from the JR McKenzie Trust to help ensure children in eastern Porirua have happy, healthy childhoods and their parents, carers and extended whanau experience being part of a caring and supportive community.
